Jeonbuk State announced that it has received an expanded allotment of skilled workforce visas from the Ministry of Justice, bringing the total number to 433 from 160.
The Skilled Workforce Recommendation System by Metropolitan Local Governments is a system where foreign workers (E-9, E-10, etc.) staying in Korea for a certain period can transition to a long-term stay visa upon receiving a recommendation from a provincial governor when meeting specific requirements. Particularly, from this year, a region-specific visa (E74R) has been newly established for population-declining and target areas, which is expected to practically address workforce shortages in areas such as Jeonju, Gunsan, and Wanju.
Non-professional Employment (E-9): 3 years + 1 year and 10 months stay / Skilled Workforce (E74): 2-year extension (no upper limit)
Foreigners who are converted to the visa will be able to stay stably during the employment contract period, and their accompanying family members will be able to live and work. Additionally, the Korean language proficiency requirements have been temporarily relaxed to allow for post-facto fulfillment until December 31, 2026, thereby lowering the entry barriers.
In light of the expanded quota, Jeonbuk State will enhance tailored support to stabilize the supply and demand for corporate workforce and facilitate the settlement of foreigners. Specifically, this will involve the expansion of settlement programs aimed at improving living conditions for skilled workforce, daily life assistance through foreign support centers, and initiatives for Korean language education and community integration.
