A meeting was arranged where President Lee Jae-myung and the resident of Jeonbuk sat face-to-face to discuss the region’s future together.

Jeonbuk State for Jeonbuk State announced that on the 27th, a “Jeonbuk Town Hall Meeting” was held at the Jeonbuk National University Convention Center, attended by around 280 people, including ministers from relevant government ministries, local National Assembly members, and residents.

President Lee Jae-myung said in his opening remarks, “There is a perception that Jeonbuk has suffered triple marginalization amid concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area and widening regional disparities,” adding that “balanced development is no longer a matter of consideration, but a national survival strategy.”

Part 1 Future Growth Strategy: Blueprints presented by each Ministries

In Part 1, ministers from relevant government ministries sequentially presented Jeonbuk’s growth strategies by sector and the direction of national support. Regarding the Saemangeum project in particular, the President said, “We need a serious discussion on whether maintaining the existing plan as it is the best option, or whether shifting to an approach better suited to the times would be more efficient.”

Part 2 Resident’s voices take the policy stage

In Part 2, Residents and experts took the microphone themselves to propose local issues and initiatives.

Kim Kwan-young, Governor of Jeonbuk State, said, “This event was an opportunity to directly convey the voices of residents to the government and to confirm that the direction of state affairs and Jeonbuk’s development strategy are aligned on the same track.” He added, “It also marked a turning point where concerns over the so-called ‘triple marginalization’ can be alleviated as Jeonbuk’s role becomes clearer within the national strategy.”
