On the 27th, the provincial government signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) at the Gunsan Saemangeum Convention Center(GSCO) with Hyundai Motor Group and five central government ministries to promote advanced robot and hydrogen industries in Saemangeum and to develop a hydrogen AI ecosystem.

The total planned investment for the five projects by Hyundai Motor Group amounts to approximately 9 trillion won, with construction set to begin sequentially starting in 2027.

■ Who will support what?: Roles and scope by ministry

The government ministries and the provincial government participating in the agreement have divided their roles to ensure that Hyundai Motor Group’s Saemanguem projects proceed smoothly without disruption.

■ How did they attract Hyundai Motor Group to Saemanguem?

They determined that Hundai Motor Group’s investment direction in robotics, AI, and hydrogen aligned well with Saemangeum’s renewable energy infrastructure, and after continued, comprehensive efforts to attract the company, those efforts culminated in this agreement.

■ What comes after the agreement is even more important: Jeonbuk’s follow-up plans.

If this investment is realized, Jeonbuk will establish itself as a major industrial hub in the fields of robotics, AI, and hydrogen.

 

Kim Kwan-young, Governor of Jeonbuk State, said, “Hyundai Motor Group’s investment in Saemangeum will serve as a turning point for Jeonbuk to lead Korea’s future strategic industries,” adding that “the impact of this advanced industry investment will extend beyond Jeonbuk to become a new growth engine for the entire country.”
