Jeonbuk goes Global: African Sports Administrator becomes global ambassador for Jeonbuk

Jeonbuk State has presented honorary Jeonbuk resident cards to senior officials from African sports ministers, taking a step toward strengthening its status as an international sports city.
On the 4th, Governor Kim Kwan-Young presented “Jeonbuk Love Honorary Resident Cards” to Emily Jesaya, Member of Parliament and Vice Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture of Zimbabwe in Africa, and Ahmed Azmi Said, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Egypt at the provincial government conference room.
This representation marks the first case in which the honorary resident card has been awarded to foreign nationals who are not of Korean descent except overseas Koreans. The two vice ministers will serve as global diplomatic partners, promoting Jeonbuk across Africa and the rest of the world, and highlighting the province as an ideal venue for international sports events.
Jeonbuk visited Namibia and Zimbabwe in Africa last September to strengthen international diplomatic cooperation. During the “Public Diplomacy Hanmadang K-Festival”, which was co-hosted with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Zimbabwe, they met Vice Minister Emily Jesaya, a rising female leader of Zimbabwe, and invited her to visit Korea for the 2025 Iksan Victor Korea Masters Badminton Championships, which will be held at Wonkwang University from November 4 to 9.
Egypt located in North Africa plays a central role in African sports administration, as it is home to the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football(CAF) under FIFA. This visit was undertaken to enhance Jeonbuk State’s capacity in sports diplomacy in future.
Vice Ministers Emily Jesaya and Ahmed Azmy Said, speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, expressed their gratitude by saying, “We thank Jeonbuk State for giving us the opportunity to participate in a world-class sports event.” and added, “As honorary residents of Jeonbuk, we will actively promote the province as both a sports city and a center of K-culture throughout our countries and across Africa.”
Governor Kim Kwan-Young of Jeonbuk State said, “Jeonbuk, the birthplace of K-Culture, is home to world-class cultural heritage, having proudly hosted major international sports events such as the 1997 Muju-Jeonju Winter Universiade and the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships. Let us continue to strengthen our mutual cooperation in various fields, including sports exchange.”
Meanwhile, during their visit, the delegation from Zimbabwe and Egypt plans to participate in the Badminton Championships, while also touring major sports facilities in Jeonbuk, including Jeonju World Cup Stadium and the Muju Taekwondowon. They will also experience various sports programs, such as watching a K-League Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors match and visiting Jeonbuk Sports Middle and High School to interact with students.
