Jeonbuk State announced on the 21st that it will participate in the General Assembly of the World Union of Olympic Games to learn from the experiences of Olympic host cities and explore strategies for regional development through sports.

The General Assembly of the World Union of Olympic Cities will be held in Pyeongchang from November 22 to 25, hosted by the World Union of Olympic Cites, an association of Olympic host cities. Around 200 representatives from Olympic host cities and international sports organizations from 30 countries are expected to attend the General Assembly. From November 20 to 22, the “Smart City & Sports Summit”, a related event of the General Assembly, will be held in Seoul.

Jeonbuk State plans to gain advanced cases and administrative know-how related to Olympic operations through this participation and to explore strategies for urban development through sports and the creation of a sustainable Olympic legacy. By networking with representatives from Olympic host cities and international sports organizations, the province aims to exchange practical know-how on event preparation and legacy management, and to incorporate these experiences into its sports infrastructure development policies.

Governor Kim Kwan-Young attended the welcome reception on the opening day(November 20) of the “Smart City & Sports Summit”, engaging in discussions with mayors of Olympic host cities and representatives of organizing institutions, and gaining valuable insights into international sports governance and urban management.

In a meeting with Grégoire Junod, Mayor of Lausanne, Switzerland, and President of the World Union of Olympic Cities(WUOC), Governor Kim discussed directions for sustainable development of sports and cities and explored ways for mutual cooperation.

Governor Kim Kwan-Young of Jeonbuk State said, “Participation in the 2025 General Assembly of the World Union of Olympic Cities is a valuable opportunity to learn firsthand from the experiences and know-how of Olympic host cities around the world.” He added, “Through the study of diverse cases, we will contribute to the development of Jeonbuk’s sports policies and systems.”

Meanwhile, the World Union of Olympic Cities was established in 2002 with the aim of sharing experiences and expertise among Olympic host cities and offering information for cities aspiring to host the Olympic Games. Currently, it has 50 member cities and 19 partner organizations active around the world.
