Jeonbuk State’s vision for hosting the Jeonju Summer Olympics, inheriting the spirit of the Seoul Olympics, is expanding nationwide.
On the 17th, Jeonbuk State attended the “37th Anniversary Ceremony of the Seoul Olympics” held at Olympia Hall in Seoul Olympic Parktel, and strengthened its resolve to host the Jeonju Summer Olympics.
The event was attended by about 300 people, including Governor Kim Gwan-yeong, members of the Jeonbuk Olympic Bidding Committee, the President of the Korean ports & Olympic Committee(KSOC), government officials, and figures from the sports community. The ceremony was organized by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation to commemorate the historical significance of the 1988 Seoul Olympics and to pass on the spirit of peace and unity to future generations.
Accompanied by a performance expressing the hope that the passion and dreams that began in Seoul will continue on a new stage and journey, Governor Kim Gwan-yeong of Jeonbuk delivered a congratulatory address, conveying the strong determination to successfully host the Jeonju Summer Olympics and sharing the aspirations of the province’s residents for the future.
Jeonbuk State plans to be set to embark on full-scale efforts to host the Jeonju Summer Olympics, with this commemorative ceremony as momentum. Focusing on the Olympic bidding committee, Jeonbuk plans to strengthen cooperation with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, international sports organizations, and related institutions, while also accelerating efforts to build a hosting foundation and shape international public opinion.
The drive to host the Jeonju Summer Olympics goes beyond simply attracting a sporting event; it is being pursued as a mid-to long-term strategy aimed at regional development and enhancing the national brand. Jeonbuk already possesses experience and infrastructure for hosting international events and plans to attract global attention in the sports world by putting forward an Olympic vision centered on an eco-friendly smart city.
Governor Kim Gwan-yeong of Jeonbuk State stated, “The Seoul Olympics served as an opportunity for Korea to establish its place on the world stage, and today we aim to revive that spirit in Jeonju. Jeonbuk will do its utmost to ensure that the Summer Olympics can be held in Jeonju and the interest and support of the public are more important than anything else.”
Subsequently, he added, “We hope that Jeonbuk, together with residents, the government, and the sports community, can move forward hand in hand to grow into an Olympic city embraced by all people worldwide.”
