Jeonbuk State participates in the World Athletics Championships Observer Program, moving to enhance its international sports competitiveness

Kim Gwan-yeong, Governor of Jeonbuk State will attend the 2025 World Athletic Championships, held in Tokyo, Japan, from the 14th to the 15th of this month. This visit was undertaken to directly observe the world’s top-level sports event management systems and, through networking with key figures in the international sports community, to strengthen Jeonbuk’s sports infrastructure and explore strategies for hosting the Olympics.
Governor Kim and the Jeonbuk Olympic Promotion Team will participate in the Observer Program, organized by World Athletics during the championships, where they will study the operations of an international sports event firsthand and learn practical skills. Through this, they plan to examine key aspects of international event management, including stadium operation systems, athlete support structures, and sustainability strategies.

The program will be jointly attended by delegation from six cities aiming to host the Olympics, including Jeonbuk, London(UK), Munich(Germany), and Ahmedadad(India). Since athletics is the largest in scale among single Olympic sports, this on-site learning is expected to be a key part of preparation for hosting the Olympic Games.
In addition, through interactions with World Athletics executives and key figures from the sports community of various countries, they plan to expand their international sports network with the intention of leveraging them as an opportunity to position Jeonbuk as a significant partner on the global sports stage.
Governor Kim Gwan-yeong said, “The World Athletics Championships, being the biggest single-sport event in the world, will be a valuable opportunity to directly experience advanced operational know-how. Based on this observation experience, we expect it to serve as an important foundation for Jeonbuk to secure differentiated competitiveness on the international sports stage and to strengthen our commitment to hosting the Olympics.”
