On the 27th, during the opening ceremony of the 29th World Korean Business Convention held at Songdo Convensia in Incheon, the World-OKTA(World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Association) and Jeonbuk State signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) to promote Jeonju’s bid for the Summer Olympics.

The agreement was pursued to enhance the promotion of Jeonju’s Summer Olympic bid activities for the Summer Olympics worldwide and strengthen the international support base for it once the campaign enters a stage suitable for global publicity, based on a global network of Korean business leaders with 150 chapters in 71 countries and over 28,000 members. This initiative is expected to enhance global awareness and strengthen the momentum for Jeonju’s bid to host the Summer Olympics, the first-ever challenge undertaken by a non-capital region.

The signing ceremony was held as part of the official opening program of the World Korean Business Convention, with Kim Jong-Hoon, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonbuk State, and Park Jong-Bum, Chairman of the World-OKTA(World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations), attending and signing the agreement. The ceremony was attended by Kim Kyung-Hyup, Commissioner of the Overseas Koreans Agency, Yoo Jeong-Bok, Mayor of Incheon, Kang Kyung-Sung, Presedent of KOTRA, and Kim Won-Yi, Secretary of the National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs, and Startups Committee, along with about 1,500 participants, adding greater significance to the signing event.

Through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to actively promote Jeonju’s bid to host the Summer Olympics abroad by utilizing the global network of Korean business leaders, and to expand the base of international support among key overseas figures and organizations. In addition, they plan to establish a practical cooperation system in various areas, including operating promotional booths in connection with international events organized by the World-OKTA, pursuing joint projects, and strengthening economic-exchange programs,

The World-OKTA(World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations), established in 1981 in Los Angeles, USA, is the world’s largest organization of Korean business leaders, founded to promote Korea’s trade and support overseas market expansion. The association is currently led by Chairman Park Jong-Bum of Youngsan Group, who is based in Vienna, Austria, as its 22nd president. Under his leadership, the organization continues to carry out various global initiatives, including nurturing young next-generation leaders and expanding economic exchanges, built on its worldwide network of Korean business leaders.

Kim Jong-Hoon, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonbuk State, said, “It is very meaningful tp take the first-step toward cooperation with Korean business leaders around the world for Jeonju’s bid to host the Jeonju Summer Olympics,” and added, “We will continue to strengthen both domestic and international cooperation networks to lay a solid foundation for successfully attracting the Olympics.”

Meanwhile, the 29th World Korean Business Convention, organized by the World-OKTA, is the world’s largest business event for Korean entrepreneurs, bringing together around 6,000 participants, including Korean business leaders from around the world, overseas buyers, and local business leaders. During the convention, corporate exhibitions, export consultations, economic forums, cultural exchange events, and others will take place. A total of eight companies from Jeonbuk State, including Daesung Medical Co., Ltd.(Iksan), Lineplatz Cosmetic(Gochang), Cellcore Co., Ltd.(Wanju), UJ Co., Ltd.(Gunsan), and Cobix Co., Ltd.(Namwon), will participate to engage in export consultations and explore overseas markets.
