The 10th Jeonju Internatinal Film Festival(JIFF) will be held in Jeonju, or Jeonju film street and Korea Sori Arts Center for 9 days starting from April 30.
The film festival will provide visitors with a good opportunity to enjoy a variety of world prestigious films under the festival motto, "independence, counter proposal, and digital".
Especially, visitors are highly recommended to focus on a retrospective on Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski(71).
The retrospective will release 10 works featuring in major works of Jerzy Skolimowski, during 1960-1970, such as "Walkover(1965)", "Barrier(1966)", and "Le Depart(1967)" and "Four nights with Anna", a film ending his 17 years' leaving from cinema, and a documentary work of Damien Vertrang, "the film master, Jerzy Skolimowski".
Jerzy Skolimowski who led new wave of eastern Europe films in 1960 was banished from his country for anti-Stalinism and kept making films wandering about places of England or Germany. He returned to cinema as film director after releasing "Ferdydurke" in 1991, ending his foreign living as a painter in America.
Furthermore, the film festival announced to hold Sri Lanka special event. The special event introduces 12 works of four major directors, including Dharmasena Pathiraja, a master of Sri Lankan cinema and Prasanna Vithanage.
Dharmasena Pathiraja has been recognized as one of the most outstanding film makers who presented a new way for Sri Lankan cinema by describing social problems stemmed from socio-political limitations and minority races and the special event will show his 6 works, including "One League of Sky(1974)".
A worker for the film festival said, "Sri Lanka has developed cinema culture even though they went through long time of post colonial and civil war ridden hardships" and "the Sri Lanka specials are strongly believed to provide visitors with opportunities to immerse themselves into fresh film impacts".
