The “Korean People’s Hog Farm,” built in Nampo, North Korea, with the support of North Jeolla Province in partnership with fourteen cities and counties of the Province, is to open on Oct. 24.
Construction of the hog farm began with the shipments of materials and visits of a delegation of experts to North Korea, as the exchange and cooperative projects between North and South Korea resumed in March this year.
Since the beginning of construction in March, North Jeolla Province has made eight shipments of the construction materials and stock farming equipment necessary for the hog farms, along with eight plastic greenhouses, to the 21,180m sq. Daedae-ri, Nampo-si, South Pyeongan Province site.
North Jeolla Province is expected to send a delegation consisting of the vice-governor for political affairs and members of the Association for Mutual Assistance between North and South Korea to celebrate the completion of the Korean People’s Hog Farm, a project representing the successful promotion of the exchange and cooperative projects between the North and South in the area of agro-livestock.
During its visit to North Korea, the delegation will have discussions with North Korean officials about the cooperative projects planned for 2008, with a focus on providing support for North Korea’s efforts to increase its self-reliance in the areas of agriculture and stockbreeding.
North Jeolla Province shipped 267 breeding pigs, feed, and medicines necessary for the operation of the hog farm to North Korea on Oct. 12.
