Outline for the "Overseas Non-Korean Taekwondo Masters Essay Competition"
■ Purpose of the Competition
The Taekwondo Promotion Foundation(TPF), Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo Federation(WTF) invite overseas Taekwondo masters to share their experience and memories.
This competition is particularly designed to discover and recognize the efforts and achievements of Taekwondo masters, instructors, and athletes, who are Non-Koreans and have contributed to the development and distribution of Taekwondo throughout the world. The competition essays will be used as valuable sources and references for the promotion of Taekwondo as they will include Taekwondo’s histories throughout different parts of the world and cultures, as well as the personal experiences of those who are deeply involved in Taekwondo activities.
■ Outline and Details Concerning the Competition
○ TITLE : Overseas Non-Korean Taekwondo Masters Essay Competition
○ ORGANIZERS : Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo Federation

Ⅰ. Submission
A. Date and Deadline : Mar. 1 ~ Aug. 31, 2007 (Based on Korean Standard Time)
○ The essays should be submitted along with the application forms.
○ Application forms are available for download from the websites below :
TPF(www.tpf.in), Kukkiwon(www.kukkiwon.or.kr), WTF (www.wtf.org)
○ Each entrant is restricted to submit only one essay.
B. Language : In English Only
C. Length : 10~30pages(A4, Font size 12)
D. Eligibility : Non-Korean Taekwondo masters, instructors and athletes
○ The athletes should hold the Kukkiwon third dan or above.
○ Taekwondo masters, instructors and athletes of Korean descent who obtained foreign citizenship or those who belong to the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) are not eligible.
Ⅱ. Content of the Essay
A. Stories of overcoming challenges and difficulties in spreading Taekwondo
B. Experiences in devising ways of instructing and promoting Taekwondo in order to adapt to the different situations and cultural environments
C. New ideas and suggestions on how to improve the Taekwondo system or policy for continuous developments of Taekwondo
D. Personal testimony of self-cultivation and development through Taekwondo trainings, such as the changes in a mental state, strengthening of will, etc.
Ⅲ. Award Announcement : Oct. 19, 2007 (Tentative Date)
A. The names of the winners will be posted on the following websites :

(The prize-winners will also be notified individually)
B. Ceremony at the "World Taekwondo Hanmadang 2007"
○ "World Taekwondo Hanmadang 2007" event is scheduled to be held in November in Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province
C. Contents of Awards and Prizes
※ The details on the prizes can be changed under certain circumstances.
Ⅳ. Process of Screening and Judging
○ The selection of the winners will be based upon two preliminary evaluations and one final examination.
○ Judges will consist of six persons : three who represent Taekwondo and academic societies; two who represent the area of literature and arts (English majors) and one from the field of mass media or foreign affairs.
○ Criteria of evaluating the essays : the essays are evaluated in the following four areas ; 1)the efforts and achievements in promoting Taekwondo in the home country that the applications belong to; 2)self-cultivation or the cultivation of the ways of instructing, spreading and globalizing Taekwondo; 3)examples and evidence of the enhancement of Korea’s image in their respective societies and countries; 4)and the literary quality of the essays.
※ All the details concerning these criteria will be decided by the judges of the evaluation committee.
