Hyundai Gunsan Shipyard holding a naming ceremony for its first two ships
Giving names, "Borneo" and "Brandenburg" for two bulk carriers
Two vessels first constructed at Hyundai Gunsan Shipyard will be delivered to their owner at 2nd and 3rd, March. The Gunsan shipyard announced that the construction of two 180,000dwt bulk carriers, ordered from E.R. Schiffahrt in March 2008, were completed and they will be delivered at 2nd and 3rd, March respectively.
It building had been commenced upon beginning of the shipyard construction in May 2008 and was completed after one year and nine months. They are 291 meters long, 45 meters in width and 24 meters deep, three times bigger than a soccer stadium, equipped with a Hyundai’s self-produced 18.6 thousand kW engine, and the bulk carriers have a speed of 15.3 knots(28km/h).
Gunsan shipyard held the naming ceremony for the bulk carriers with owner's parties attending it on February 25 and declared opening of West Sea era in the shipbuilding industry of Korea.
The bulk carriers were named E. R. Borneo and E. R. Brandenburg respectively. About 10 parties concerned, including the President of E.R. Schiffahrt as its owner and officials of K-Line of Japan as Charterer, attended the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Heavy Industries is going to hold a completion ceremony of Gunsan Shipyard on March 31 with Hyundai Heavy Vice Chairman Min Gye-sik and local celebrities attending it at the shipbuilding site.
The Hyundai Heavy’s shipyard in Gunsan, located on 1.8 million square meters(540,000 P'yong) of land in the GunJang Industrial Complex, has a couple of colossal facilities such as a world's largest 1,300,000-ton dry dock and a 1,650-ton goliath crane, and It has a backlog of total 28 ship orders, including tankers and bulk carriers.
