Jeonbuk State has been exclusively selected by the Korean Olympic Committee as the candidate city to represent South Korea for the 2036 Summer Olympics. With this, Jeonbuk will officially enter the international competition to host the Olympics on behalf of South Korea.
Jeonbuk's Olympic bid was not just about hosting a sporting event, but a national challenge to promote balanced development and regional competitiveness.
Jeonbuk will now begin full-scale preparations for its Olympic bid. First, it plans to quickly form a dedicated organization and start the administrative process in consultation with government ministries. In addition, the province plans to solidify cooperation with cities in Jeollanam-do, Gwangju, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Daegu, and actively promote its strengths on the international stage, including submitting a letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics is expected to have a positive impact on the economy and society of Jeonbuk beyond just a sporting event. Various effects such as large-scale infrastructure investment, revitalization of the tourism industry, and increase in global brand value are expected.
