“Olympic Day Run officially certified by IOC” will be held in Jeonbuk as a non-metropolitan area for the first time.

 

Governor of Jeonbuk State, Kim, Gwanyeong, Mayor of Jeonju, Wu, Beomki and President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, Yu, Seungmin concluded a memorandum of understanding{MOU} for mutual cooperation at the Provincial Office on the 6th for successful hosting of “Olympic Day Run 2025 in Jeonju”

 

It is the first time that “Olympic Day Run”, the only official Olympic event in Korea officially certified by IOC{International Olympic Committee} is held in a non-metropolitan area. So far, this event has been held four times in Seoul alone.

 

Olympic Day Run is a global campaign organized by the Olympic Committees of each country for the purpose of spreading Olympic values on “Olympic Day” commemorating the founding anniversary of the IOC{June, 23, 1894}.

 

This hosting in Jeonbuk is significant in terms of balanced regional development and simultaneously demonstrates Jeonbuk’s determination to bring the Summer Olympics to Jeonju.

 

Under the agreement, Jeonbuk State and Jeonju are in charge of administrative and financial support needed for the event while Korean Sport & Olympic Committee oversees the event planning and management.


The competition will take place in and around Jeonju World Cup Stadium, and will be held on a first-come, first-served basis for 6,000 people. Applications for participation can be made through the RUNABLE app from August, 19, 2:00 pm, and the course is divided into 5km and 10km options. * an application for posting all running information nationwide and the reception.

 

On the day of the event, side events such as sports star signing event, sports experience program or Jeonju Olympic Bid Cheer event will also be held. All participants will receive a commemorative kit of Olympic Day Run composed of an Official Olympic Day Run T-shirt, a sports bag, a Team Korea towel and others.

 

Governor Kim, Gwanyeong said, “I am very honored that we are holding the authoritative Olympic event officially certified by IOC in Jeollabuk-do.”, announcing that he would do his best to make this event a festival enjoyed by all participants together in addition to make a strong will towards both the awareness of Jeonju and the bid for the Olympics known to a wide audience through this event.
