Jeonbuk State is actively encouraging farmers to sign up for ‘farmer safety insurance’ to prevent safety accidents ahead of the fall farming season.

This insurance covers work-related accidents and illnesses for farmers, with the government and local municipalities bearing over 80% of the insurance premium. Farmers only need to pay approximately 20,000 won, which allows them to be comprehensively protected during agricultural work.

The Farmer Safety Insurance covers farmers aged 18 to 87 who are excluded from workers' compensation insurance. It provides coverage for physical injuries and illnesses that may occur during farming activities. Enrollment is available year-round, and farmers can receive guidance and choose from various types, such as general plans or work-related accident plans, through local agricultural cooperatives. Premiums range from 100,000 to 180,000 won depending on the plan type. The government subsidizes 50% of the cost, while provinces and cities cover an additional 30%, reducing the financial burden on farmers to approximately 20,000 won.

Min Seon-sik, Director of the Agricultural, Life and Livestock Industry Bureau of the Jeonbuk State said, “Before the farming season begins, please check whether you have signed up for agricultural safety insurance to ensure the safety of yourself and your family from unexpected accidents.”
