The privately-led, state-wide committee for the Jeonju Summer Olympics attraction has officially launched, putting Jeonbuk's Olympic attraction strategy on the right track.
On the 23rd, Jeonbuk State held a launch ceremony for the ‘Jeonju Summer Olympics State Attraction Committee’ at the Moak Hall of Sori Arts Center of Jeollabuk State and began practical activities to build national consensus and persuade the international community. The launch ceremony was held in commemoration of ‘Olympic Day’ (June 23rd), established by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The state-wide committee for the Jeonju Summer Olympics attraction, which was launched this time, consists of a total of 2,036 people, and has a systematic structure centered on six divisions: sports, media promotion, culture and tourism, AI academics, regional development, and citizen participation. Jeonbuk residents, as well as outgoing residents, young people, and experts from various fields, will participate together to develop private-centered attraction activities. The attraction promotion strategy is implemented according to the roadmap established by each division.
At the launch ceremony on this day, a commission was delivered to representatives of 14 cities and counties in Jeonbuk, and the foundation for participation throughout the state was established institutionally. Then, youths representing athletic people in the city, such as Kim Dong-joo(three ironmen), Han Da-kyung(swimming), Jeong Sol-min(volleyball), and Lee Chan-young(baseball), took to the stage and read the attraction manifesto. Through a symbolic performance featuring five flags of Jeonju Flag Battle, Jeonbuk's will was revealed.
The committee will promote the attraction campaign focusing on building national consensus, expanding residents' participation, and strengthening domestic and international solidarity. Additionally, it plans to widely communicate the potential of Jeonbuk to the world through policy proposals and strategic promotions that align with the standards of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as well as spreading messages highlighting the justification for attraction.
Additionally, a citizen-centered implementation roadmap will be established to develop participatory promotions and content that incorporates Jeonbuk's unique strengths such as K-Culture, AI, and carbon neutrality. In particular, the plan is to establish the identity of the 'Jeonbuk-style Olympics' by emphasizing the fusion of cultural and tourism content as well as a sustainable event operation model.
This attraction strategy minimizes SOC investment by fully 100% utilizing existing stadiums and temporary facilities. It includes a practical action plan that integrates access to Saemangeum International Airport and KTX, private accommodations, and a specialized stay system. The goal is to earn the trust of both the people and the world by showcasing the future for Jeonbuk where the environment, economy, and culture coexist harmoniously.
"The Olympics presents a natural opportunity to transform Jeonbuk quickly and effectively," said Jeonbuk Governor Kim Kwan-young. "It will be a decisive turning point in the region's economic, cultural, tourism, and environmental development." He emphasized the social significance of attracting the Olimpics, saying, “The Jeonju Olympics will be a symbol of social integration that will bring people together, just like the Seoul Olympics and Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.”
