- From Reporting to Interpretation via Real-Time Connection: Strengthening Cooperation with the 14- Language Interpretation Volunteer Corps Jeonbuk State Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Lee Oh-sook) announced on the 8th that it held a "119 Interpretation Volunteer Corps Communication Meeting" in partnership with the Jeonbuk Family Center to discuss ways to strengthen the emergency response system for foreign callers and improve interpretation service operations. The meeting was organized to build a speedier and more accurate response system in light of the increasing number of 119 calls from foreign residents, and to enhance the quality of interpretation services and solidify cooperation through close communication with the volunteer corps. Following a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in 2023, the Jeonbuk Fire Safety Headquarters and the Jeonbuk Family Center have been co-operating the 119 Interpretation Service to eliminate language barriers for foreign callers. Currently, the 119 Interpretation Volunteer Corps consists of 111 volunteers covering 14 languages. When a foreigner calls 119, a three-way call is connected among the 119 Situation Room, the Caller, and the Interpreter, facilitating smooth and swift communication. ※ 14 Supported Languages: Vietnamese, Chinese, Filipino (English), Cambodian, Uzbek, Japanese, Mongolian, Nepali, Thai, Myanmar, Indonesian, Russian, Arabic, and Sri Lankan. Lee Oh-sook, Chief of the Jeonbuk SFire Safety Headquarters, emphasized: "For foreign callers, language barriers are directly linked to matters of life and death, making the role of the interpretation volunteer corps crucial.
